To Whom It May Concern

Topic: Desi Movers and Syed Arif Adnan (Jason)

On May 2008, I contacted “Desi Movers” from the Yellow pages ad and spoke with Jason. He quoted me $50/hour for 2 people and a truck. I mentioned I have a piano, he said he would charge $150 extra for it. I was moving from Scarborough to Pickering (27Km). He said it would take 5-6 hours and 1 hour extra travel time (because I do not have heavy furniture). We agreed over phone.

On June 17, 2008, 2 guys arrived named Moses and Kenny around 9:30am and asked for $400 as a deposit before they start. We gave them the money and collected a receipt (attached). They moved few things slowly to the truck and then charged $500 for the piano. We started arguing as $150 was agreed with Jason. I called Jason, he said he can not do anything, give the money to the guys and hung up on me. I called back several times and he did not pick up the phone. We were stuck in tough situation, so we paid the money. They continued moving very slowly. Around 2pm when our goods were all in the truck, Moses demanded another $500, unless he would not move the truck. We were shocked and did not know what to do, I wanted to call the police. Moses said if I call the police, they would not come as it is a civil case. I was so frustrated that I called “Dynamic Mover” from our community newspaper and talked with a guy named Altaf Hussain and described the situation. He said he will arrange a truck and call me back. While waiting for a call from Altaf Hussain, Jason called me and asked “If I contacted Dynamic Mover, Dynamic is their people so give the money to Moses and get your goods in the new place”. I had no choice, ran to the bank and got another $500 for them.

So, before they moved in my new place, which is only a 27km, I paid them ($400+500+500=1,400).

They reached the new place after an hour (when it took us only 30min.) and parked their truck a few houses down when they should park in front of our garage door. Moses came with a final bill of $2,563.35(attached, so far we paid $1,400 cash); if $1,163.35 is not paid they are not going to unload the truck. We were so shocked and had no energy left to fight back. It was already 4pm, my husband is a blood pressure patient and he carries a disability licence. It was so much for him to take (he was already extremely tried by helping them upload the truck), He started feeling so sick, and I was so worried that he could collapse. While I was thinking about where I can get help, Moses came and threatened me “if you do not pay me now, I will take all your goods to our storage and come later to collect and will cost you a lot”. My husband said pay them as my husband was feeling so nervous and he looked very pale. Again He ran to the bank and got the rest $. They unloaded the truck and asked us to work with them as we wasted so much of their time on arguing and fighting. Moses and Kenny were so cruel and so rude, we requested them to put boxes inside the house but they dumped those in the garage. I spent a lot of time labelling those boxes.

They finished unloading (dumping in the garage) within an hour and in the process damaged my piano. As they left around 5:30 in the afternoon, they were laughing and singing so loud, making us feel stupid and foolish.

While we were helping them upload and unload the truck, Kenny mentioned he dose not like to do this cheating job everyday but they are well paid. They have 2 bosses Robert and Jason.

They forced us to pay $2,500 for my small move. They damaged my piano which will cost me $1,000.

This is a crime and we ask for justice. If these hoodlums are free to go today, they will be more powerful to damage innocent people’s goods and money, because they will know, these people would not get justice.

Pacific Van Lines Moving – (Editors Note:Also Known As Desi Movers Inc., Dynamic Movers, Dynamite Movers, Comfortable Movers Etc., Etc.)

After seeing an advertisement in the Toronto Star, on Friday, July 3, 2009, I, Lenea Grace, telephoned Pacific Van Lines Moving at (416) 999-6577 and spoke to a man on the phone about a moving quote. I explained that I needed movers for 2 pm on Sunday, July 5 and that I would be moving from a 1-bedroom apartment to a 3rd floor bachelor apartment approximately 3 km away from the original apartment. The man quoted me at $40/hour plus a one-time fee of $40 for their travel time. This would include all moving expenses and the labour of two moving men. He also said it would take 2-3 hours maximum. So, he had given me a maximum quote of $160 plus tax. I asked if there would be a deposit and he said no. I wrote all of this down.

On Sunday, July 5, 2009, two movers from Pacific Van Lines Moving named Joseph and Michael showed up in a beat-up van with no logo on the sides. They asked for a $350 deposit in cash before they would begin to work. I also signed a contract at this time and learned there would be more fees than the original quote had stated: a minimum of 4 hours labour (totaling $160) and a stairs charge of $20 per mover per flight per location (totaling $80). None of the other extra charges applied to me. At that time, my quote was raised to $280 plus tax.

The movers were slow and took about 1.5 hours of smoking breaks in total. They scratched my walls and my furniture, often ripping large chunks of paint of both walls and furniture.

Before we drove to the new location, the movers presented me with a bill for $747.50. I was shocked and asked about all the charges on the bill:

Labour: $240 (Charged for 4 hours of labour PLUS two hours of travel time)

Travelling cost: $40

Stair charge: $160 (Overcharged by $80)

Heavy item: $80 (There were no items over 50 kg as stated in the contract)

Kilometers: $30

Misc: $100 (They claimed this was for the “long walk” from my apt to the parking lot. My apt is in front of the elevator which lands in the front foyer which opens directly in front of the parking lot. In total, it is about a 5-meter walk).

They told me to phone their boss at 416-999-6577 and so I did. I calmly expressed my concern at the outrageous charges that did not match my quote or the contract. The man on the phone told me he was the manager but when I asked him to correct and remove some of the charges he informed me that “it is Sunday and I can’t do anything about it. Take it to court”. I asked for his name and he hung up on me.

At that time all of my belongings were in the van. I had no other way of moving my things, so I told them I was paying under protest and paid the remaining balance. I gave them $400 and the moving men did not have the $2.50 change to give me.

When we got to my new apartment at 448 Shaw Street, the movers told me that there would be ANOTHER $120 charge to move my belongings up the stairs. I refused to pay. Then they unloaded all of my things onto the sidewalk. I asked them why they were refusing to do their job that I had already paid them to do. They told me “their boss wouldn’t let them”. Then Michael looked at me and said, “Bitch I’m from the ghetto. I don’t give a shit”. Then they drove off, leaving me with all of my things on the sidewalk.

This is ridiculous. The service was sub-par, rude, and wrecked most of my furniture. It was truly daylight robbery.

When I researched this “business” on the Internet after this horrible incident, I learned that this company is licensed under the business number 1715130 Ontario Inc. and has gone under many names, like Desi Movers or Dynamic Movers in addition to Pacific Van Lines Moving. There was an article in the Toronto Star on August 15, 2008 about the same company scamming people, and yet, the very same company advertised in the Star just two weeks ago. I will be contacting the Toronto Star as soon as possible.

I would like to be reimbursed for all charges, as this was a complete waste of my money and time, as well as proven false advertising and a breach against the Consumer Protection Act.

Desi Movers Inc. – Post Three

Extortion, Fraud, Thieves

On June 27, 2008 we moved our residence from (a temporary accommodation a Semi- Detached house) 3726 Bloomington Crescent, Mississauga, Ontario L5M 0A2 to 3153 Tacc Drive, Mississauga, ON L5M 0B6. (Detached home). For our move we engaged this moving company called “Desi Movers Inc. out of Scarborough, Ontario (No details of address, Phone # (416) 889 8107) a decision which will always remain as the most harrowing experience of our life.

On June 24th I spoke with Mr. Jay, as figured in the advertisement in Can India (who claimed himself to be the owner of the company) and again we reconfirmed our booking and rates that were offered to us ($ 65 per hour for a 28 foot truck with 3 men) with them on the 26th June and again on June 27th at 9 Am to ensure the movers show up at our house at the scheduled time of 10 AM.

As promised they showed up around 10.15 Am with three men and can’t confirm if the truck was exact 28 feet (guess it must have been close to that). As soon they reached our residence first thing they did was to pick up a quarrel with my next door neighbor by driving the truck in their yard and messing the grass.

The moving started with loading our main expensive leather couches and immediately after loading the couches the driver of the truck (Mr. Moses) presented a contract to my wife stating that they need to have the document signed before they can do any further loading and asked her to initial the so called contract. Seizing the opportunity of seeing no males at home decided to pressurize two ladies who were at home (my wife and my mother-in-law) the driver demanded $ 200 be given to him as advance before loading our belongings. Hoping that they will not waste time in loading my wife paid them $ 200 as demanded. After another 15 minutes or so the driver again demanded another $ 300 be paid. By the time I reached home and he said that he has received instructions from his owner Mr. Jay that he must collect additional $ 300 before they can load further which we again paid them. It wouldn’t stop at that even before one fourth our belongings were loaded they demanded more payments an additional amount of $ 400 and they all stopped working, and we ended up paying a total of $ 900 before most of the things got loaded.

The drive to our new home was about 3 Km and when they reached our door step they wouldn’t start unloading the goods. After about 20 minutes, the driver (Moses) came in with an invoice showing a total of $ 4203.50. We argued for about 45 minutes and my wife in meantime also called the police and they said they would not interfere in this matter as this is a civil case. In meantime they started threatening us stating they will have to take the belongings to a bonded warehouse and it could take over $ 5000 to clear goods from the bonded warehouse, etc. The demand was they receive complete payment of $ 4203.50 be received immediately wanted the payment can be received only by cash and not by Credit card or any other mode. This created additional problem as we did not have so much cash on us and had to rush my wife to banks to withdraw funds from different banks as our limits for daily withdrawal of cash would permit withdrawal of such huge sum of money.

In meantime they drove away the truck away from the house to end of the street (about 300 meters away which created additional tension as the truck was no longer in our sight. The hustling for payment continued at this point two other helpers to the driver also joined the party saying they have to go and they won’t be able to unload unless we make the payments immediately. Pressuring from all corners this in addition to managing our elderly parents who were in deep shock at the behavior of the movers, and my wife going thru the stress of also managing our young son. She decided to drop our son at one of our friends place so that he is away from this utmost traumatizing situation. In addition to all these we had the deadline of handing over our temporary accommodation back to the builders before end of the day. It was almost 3 PM when the unloading had still not started and we had still quite a lot of things at our house, which were to be cleaned up before 6 PM. On one hand we had to deal with these thugs and on the other hand we had to complete the move before end of the day and to top it all, no support coming from the law enforcement agency created additional trauma.

Looking at all these we had no option but to pay off the movers the ransom payment (I would like to describe only that way). All that we managed was reduce the ransom payment from $ 4203.50 to $ 3800. We paid $ 3800 with a hope at least the job will be done.

Though everything that was loaded in the truck was unloaded but barring couple items most of our things were dropped at the foray itself. Even little things they moved they handled it so carelessly and resulting in minor damages to the furniture and scratches and dents to the flooring and walls.

The contract that my wife had initialed was never handed over to us and the driver got into the truck promising he would give us copy and suddenly sped away so rapidly. We are yet to get over the shock of dealing with these thugs and sadly the whole experience of enjoying our new home has been overwhelmed by this shocking experience. – Venkat Ramaseshan

Please be advised that Complete Movers, also operating as Logan Moving & Storage should be avoided at all costs. Save your time, energy & $$ and hire real professionals as this company lacks plenty. After receiving an email confirmation outlining the agreed to charges regarding my move, I was surprised & very disappointed by what took place on the actual day of my move. I was quoted $55/hr with a standard base charge of an hour and a half to account for traveling time.

My move was a pretty standard, simple move of approx 60kms in distance and items for a 1 bdrm apartment. Before the movers arrived, I had friends & family move all furniture and boxes to the garage so that the truck only had to back up & load. This was done for the obvious reasons, to save $$ & time.

The hired movers took their time loading the truck carrying one small item at a time & taking smoke & water breaks. At one point, one of my family members actually got in the truck to help load.

The movers were exactly one hour late for our scheduled 9am appt. We arrived at the new location approx 12pm and the move wascompleted at exactly 1pm for a total of 3 hours worth of work. My invoice however stated something completely different. First, theytold me that in order to unload the truck I needed to pay the invoice first. The total charges were 4 hours labour plus 2 hours travel time + GST totaling $372.50.

When I asked the driver how they arrived @ 4 hours labour, he said that its standard rate. I am still not sure how they mathematically calculated their total as $55/hr x 6hrs + 5% GST should total $346.50. I paid cash due to the fact that I was scared to give them my credit card # in case of future mysterious charges. I handed them $380 cash and they refused to produce change. They simply laughed & stated that it was their coffee $$.

When I called management to inquire about the additional 3 hours charged he immediately became defensive and irate. Stating that I was crazy & to never call his company again. He proceeded to yell and name call and then ended the conversation by telling me to “F” off & hung up on me.

I am very unhappy and dissatisfied with the lack of customer service I received. Not to mention the $206.75 that I was overcharged. $380 cash less Actual invoice of $372.50 less $173.25 ($55/hr * 3hrs labour + 5%GST)for what should have been charged. I would & will advise everyone I can to avoid this company by all means. I am thoroughly disgusted that businesses such as this one are still able or allowed to operate with such poor performance and customer service.

Advice to all: NEVER HIRE COMPLETE MOVERS OR LOGAN MOVING & STORAGE FOR ANY JOB.

I am writing you to share my horror story with Dynamic Movers. Your name was forwarded to me via another victim and I too would like to put an end to this extortion of innocent people. I will do my best to do what ever I can to help.

On Monday, June 16, 2008 I was going reading through daily paper “24 Hours” and came upon an ad for movers. I called all the ads and decided to go with one in the paper. What I required was a 24 foot truck and 3 moving persons. Jason the person that I spoke to said that he would be able to supply me with this request at $65.00 per hour. From all of the quotes that I was receiving this seemed to be the most fantastic, so I booked their services. Although I never received an official quote as to how much the entire move would cost I said to Jason “so this should be 4 to $500.00 dollars?” He never corrected me to say it would be more.

On Tuesday, June 17 at 6:00 Jason called me to confirm the appointment for the 18th of June 2008 at 8:30 am. I figured that my move should not take longer that three to four hours and at $65.00 per hour that should be $260.00. Knowing that there are always hiccups I went to the bank and withdrew $500.00 to pay for the move.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2008 the movers arrived at 8:50 am. The gentleman who came to the door identified himself as Moses and he seemed to be the one in charge of the move. I showed him what the items were that needed to be moved. He took a look and then he presented me with a contract and said that he would need a deposit of $300.00 to start the move. I went to the money that I took out the day previous and gave him $300.00. He and the other two young men started to load the truck with my belongings. In about twenty to thirty minutes later Moses comes back to me and says that he is going to need a deposit of $500.00. I said to him “I just gave you $ 300.00 I don’t have 200.00 I only have $180.00.”

So he said that he would take it. No in my mind the move is fully paid for. The three men loaded up the truck and were finished at about 11:15 to 11:30 am. Then Moses said to me that I need to pay $520.00 for the deposit. I explained to him that I have already given him $480.00 which is more that the cost of the entire move and I don’t know why he needs $40.00 more. So he tells me that I need to speak to Jason which is his boss. So I call up Jason and explain to him that I have already paid $480.00 which is more than the cost of the entire move I don’t know why he needs $40.00 more? Jason then informs me that it is not $40.00 more but $520.00 in addition to the $480.00 that I have already given him which is required for the deposit. I inform Jason that from the time I started to talk to him on Monday this is the first time that the word deposit has ever been used, not once did he tell me that there would be a deposit and had I known that they were going to need $1,000.00 for a deposit I would never have used their services.

I then walk down the street to my new address which is a 10 minute walk I moved 0.2 kilometers away I went to the superindent’s office and received my key for the new place. I called Moses to find out where he was and he said that he went to another address implying that he was still working but in actual fact they had taken a lunch break. I have no issue with that. They need to eat and it was around the noon hour. When Moses finally shows up at about 12:15 he is insistent that I give him another $520.00 for the move. I am enraged at this point and feel that a fraudulent at is being committed against me or extortion at the time I was not sure which one but I knew that this was not right, so I called the police.

The police officer arrived and said that there was not a lot that he could do as this was a contractual issue. It was only at this point that Moses presented me with an invoice for the move and told me that instead of giving him $520.00 to complete the move that I would need to give him $1,417.50. At this point I am very vulnerable as these people have every possession that I own in the world on their truck, and all that I have are the clothes on my back. So the police officer drove me to the bank to get the money to complete my move.

As I was on the way to the bank I am reviewing the invoice and they had so many false charges on this invoice that it is not funny. They charged me $650.00 in labour $65.00 for ten hours. Traveling costs of $65.00. A stair charge of $300.00 now this was out landish. It is true that I was moving out of a basement apartment however the way that this apartment was designed there was no reason that they would need to go up and down the stairs. One of the movers was in my space and took the boxes and put them on the landing there was another mover outside taking the boxes from the landing and passing them to the third guy who was loading the truck. So the only things that needed to be walked up the stairs were the very large items, which were not many. A heavy item charge of $390.00 I didn’t have many if any heavy items . $45.00 for Kilometers then I don’t know what the previous $65.00 traveling costs was for? Then there was a Miscellaneous charge of $200.00 a box fee charge. Excuse me but you are a moving company there will be boxes to move.

Upon my return from the bank I informed Moses that I was short the funds that he required, however I gave him the $520.00 that he was asking for from before; he took it and still refused to take the items off of the truck because he was holding out for the full amount so I had to call around to friends to see if I could come up with the money. They sat around from after the lunch break at 12:15 until 4:00 pm and did absolutely nothing. I finally received the money and they started unloading the truck and they were not even careful with my belongings they broke one handle off of my chest and broke one off of the same chest. They gouged the side of my computer desk and tried to tell me it was like that prior to the move. I the showed him the fresh sawdust marks and told him that this just happened. They finished dumping the things into my apartment at around 6:00 pm. that evening, so it only took 2 hours to unload.

When they were just about finished Moses informs me that Jason says that I need to pay another $150.00 for overtime fees and if I don’t the three of them will just leave my things outside on the loading dock and I will have to bring them in myself. I told him that I refuse to pay anymore money I have already over paid for this move. Moses tells his workers that they are now off the clock and they don’t need to move anymore of my things. Moses then tells me if I want to have them move in the rest of my things I will need to tip the two movers in order for them to complete the move. I had to get on the truck and move some of the things myself I hurt my back in doing so. The reason why I hired movers was to move my belongings not for me to be on the truck moving my own things.

Is there anything that you can suggest so I can re-coup some of my monies? I am not looking for a free move. I believe that services were rendered so therefore I should pay for that, however not to the tune of $1972.25. – Christopher Brown

Desi Movers Inc. aka Dynamic Movers, aka Dynamite Movers, aka Comfortable movers

Desi Movers Inc. aka Dynamic Movers, aka Dynamite Movers, aka Comfortable Movers – Made arrangements for a move with Desi Movers, (Found them in the Yellow Pages) on March 4th, 2008.

Their man Jason, (donʼt know if that is his real name) assured me the
cost for a 26′ truck and two movers would be $60.00 per hour plus 1 hour travel time and that they were fully licensed and insured which Jason later confirmed on the telephone.

The movers show up over 1.5 hours late with no tools of any kind, no wrapping plastic and no wrapping tape. After two hours on site, one hour of which was spent on smoking breaks, they inform us the their truck is full which should have been impossible.

It is agreed that we will meet them at new home in 30 to 40 minutes or 1:10 PM. They do not show up until after 3:30 PM and when they do they park the truck on another street as opposed to our driveway. Before bringing the truck on site and unloading the driver wants to discuss money but is so
embarrassed it takes him another 10 minutes to try to justify and then present a bill for over $1,300.00!!!

After another 1 to 2 hours of constant arguing and the driver calling Jason on a cell phone that allegedly had only 2 minutes left on it is agreed that they will unload for a cash payment of $585.00, withhold a couple of leather cushions and I should go see Jason the following day to straighten things
out and get the cushions! (Jason did not have the guts to talk to me at the time)

Stupid me! I give these criminals the cash and they dump, yes, thatʼs right, they DUMP our belongings onto the Snow, Ice and Gravel of the Driveway while at the same time blocking my vehicle in the garage so that I cannot go anywhere! The wooden legs from our dining table & chairs and which have
3″ + or – carriage bolts were just thrown onto the webbing of the leather sofa & love seat causing several holes in addition to the other rips and tears.

I managed to take a photo of their truck before unloading. Not one single item had been wrapped or covered in blankets. Coffee table pressed against the side by side fridge sitting on the rough floor of the truck, etc., etc. – SuperGirl & Don Klees

aaaaaaaa

Desi Movers Inc. – Post Two

While waiting for a call from Altaf Hussain, Jason called me and asked “If I contacted Dynamic Mover,

Dynamic is their people so give the money to Moses and get your goods in the new place”.

They took $2,500 for my small move. They damaged my piano which will cost me $1,000. – Kazi Haque

Dynamic Moving Inc. – Post Two

A Complete extortion / scam / nightmare.

They quoted me $40 per hour plus one hour travel time or $50 an hour with the insurance. I went for the insurance rate.

They showed up at 9:30 am and received a $300 deposit from me. They had no wraps for the furniture. In fact, they were using MY packing tape to secure doors and drawers on my furniture.

They loaded most of my things onto the truck and there were still some things that needed to be loaded when they said that I needed to give them another $200 otherwise they can’t move the truck to the new location. I told them I wasn’t going to do that. They let me speak to their “boss” Jason who then said that unless they had the money in CASH they will not move the truck. I had to get the money for them. I had no choice.

When I arrived at my new location they were not unloading the items but rather sitting in the truck. When questioned as to why they were not unloading they said they were making up the final bill – $1,115.50! This for a one bedroom condo move of which I had spent three weeks packing up and moving the smaller items and boxes in cars so that the movers would only be transporting the furniture.

They said that unless it was paid in full they would not unload but rather take my furniture to a storage facility and then I would have to pay to get it out. I had no choice but to pay.

They damaged some of my furniture. When the move was over I wanted the driver to sign that he was finished. He wouldn’t. He needed “Jason’s” approval. Jason refused to give it – and when asked who their insurance company was he lied about that too as I called that company and they do not insure commercial movers. Yet I am charged $350 for haulage and insurance. What a joke – their job is to HAUL the furniture and I paid for insurance that doesn’t exist.

In addition to all this my family members had to assist with moving the furniture.

Do no use these people!!! They will rip you off and it will be a nightmare. It is extortion and they are violating laws. They must be stopped. – Catwoman

Quick Boys. – Post One

aaaaaaaaaa

Another sleazy, immoral, poor excuse of a mover. I hired these clowns in 2005 and boy was I sorry!
The nerve of these people to use the word Quick in anything associated with them! Well, they were
quick all right, it only took them 16 hours to do a move that any other professional mover could have
accomplished in 5 – 6 hours or less!

Then, because it was in the wee hours of the morning when they finished, the move to the new
premises had to be postponed until the following day. The following morning we receive a telephone
call from their office demanding payment in cash or certified cheque delivered to them at once or
theyʼre not going to show up.

We finally got our property back later that day from these hoodlums but only after the Police were
called who informed Quick Boys that if they did not complete the move they would be charged with
theft.

No sooner do we get them straightened out about having to complete the move when 2 fully grown
men show up at the door begging to get paid, whining about having families who will not be able to
eat as they will be fired if I do not come up with the cash!

When it was finally over, about another 12 – 14 hours later, I paid by regular cheque.
Why is the Government of this Province and the Police for that matter, so willing to allow thieves like
these people to continue ripping off the public?

Editorʼs Note: As of June 28th, 2008, the Better Business Bureau reports that Quick Boys of
Richmond Hill A company has an “unsatisfactory business performance record” with the BBB is based
on the experiences reflected in BBB files. They have 11 Complaints in the past 36 months
